Blue interlaced L's enclosing date letter S for 1771, painter's cp above for Chappuis, incised LL
The center with the monogram LPR in two shades of gold enclosed within a wreath of acorns and oak leaves, the roots of the tree at the bottom, the lobed border with oak vine suspended from the center of each gilt-enriched moulded palm frond alternate with three panels painted with birds in landscape vignettes, gilt line rim

The present plate is from a service of some 368 pieces made by Sèvres for Louis-René-Edouard, Prince (later Cardinal Prince) de Rohan and itemized in the sales records for 7 September 1772 at a total cost of 20,772 livres.
