The serpentine quarter-veneered alabastro fiorito top veneered onto a later core, above an egg-and-dart moulded cornice and shaped frieze with trellis panels above a pierced rockwork cartouche centred by a basket of flowers issuing flowerhead swags, on cabriole legs carved with acanthus and scrolled feet, regilt, restorations and some replacements, repairs to top
32¾ in. (83 cm.) high; 44½ in. (113 cm.) wide; 23¼ in. (59 cm.) deep

Specialist note

The marble, with bow-serpentined front and columnar corners, is supported on a picturesque acanthus-wrapped frame with fretted cartouche displaying a garlanded flower-basket that evokes bacchic festivities in the Golden Age. It relates to a 'French Marble Table' pattern in B. Langley's, The City and Country Builders and Workman's Treasury of Designs, 1740 (pl. 146).
