A PAIR OF CHINESE INLAID CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER WALL PLAQUES
QIANLONG (1736-95)
Each in the form of a double gourd tied wih a ribbon at the waist, the upper and lower bulbs forming recessed panels enclosing the characters da and ji inset in jade, surrounded by flowering or fruiting branches reserved on a honeycomb ground, the borders decorated with cloud scrolls inhabited by bats, the ribbons thread through a bi disc inset in lapis lazuli, the bronze hanging brackets formed by a bat below a ruyi, minor restoration, some insets replaced
