The present pendant watch was presented to Mrs. A.A. Varchavskaya by the Orenburg Railway Company. Such pendants were given to share holders or investors of the railway company as a "badge" allowing them to travel free of charge on the relevant line. The present "badge" is extremely rare as it fitted with a watch, a highly unusual feature.

Orenburg, the capital of one of Russia's most important industrial and agricultural regions, is situated in the boundary of Europe and Asia in the basin of the middle current of the Ural.

The railway line Orenburg - Samara was completed in 1876 and stimulated the development of the local industry.
