A MEISSEN GILT-METAL MOUNTED CHINOISERIE SNUFF-BOX
CIRCA 1728-30
Of demi-lune form with rounded corners, painted by C.F. Herold with Orientals on terraces with trees and flowering shrubs enriched in gilding, the cover with two figures, a child and a monkey on a vase, the base with a woman washing a lady's feet in a bowl, the lady with a squirrel and a child nearby, within quatrefoil gilt cartouches with Böttger-lustre panels and iron-red diaper panels edged with iron-red and purple scrolls, the interior of the cover with two ladies bathing children in a tub, another child nearby, the base of the interior with a lady holding a torch, a man crouching by a steaming pot and a lady seated on a chair with a fan (minute scratches to base)
