Lot Essay

Philippe Parpette was a painter of flowers, a gilder and an enameller active 1755 to 1757 and 1773 to 1806. The companion dish from lot 38 in the 1966 Rothschild sale bore Parpette's mark and a date letter for 1753, a year before he started work at Vincennes. It would appear that Parpette most probably decorated both dishes in 1756.
