A PAIR OF LOUIS XIV ORMOLU-MOUNTED BRASS-INLAID BROWN TORTOISESHELL AND BOULLE MARQUETRY CASKETS
CIRCA 1700-1715
Each decorated with acanthus and foliage within interlaced strapwork, the domed shaped rectangular top with bowed sides centred by a patera within a roundel, framed by spreading borders mounted with foliate corner clasps, similarly inlaid to the reverse and enclosing a plain brass-inlaid tortoiseshell interior, the sides mounted with husks and pierced corner mounts, above a waved apron centred by a lion-mask and on foliate feet, one corner mount and foot later, one with paper label to the underside
