A LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY AND ACAJOU MOUCHETE SEMAINIER
CIRCA 1785
With eared rectangular liver marble top above seven drawers each with two panels with pierced scrolled escutcheon and ribbon-twist handles with domed paterae back-plates, the stop-fluted angles headed by berried husk and acanthus scrolled volute mounts with egg-and-dart and fluted frieze, the sides with three panels flanked by fluted pilaster strips to the back, on a moulded rectangular plinth with rounded corners

Lot Essay

With its acajou moucheté figured veneer and restrained decoration allied with superlative construction, this semainier reflects the Court taste of the 1780's executed by ébénistes such as Jean-Henri Riesener and Jean-François Leleu.
