The Inventory taken following the death of Jean-François Oeben in 1763 records:
These two tables, unfinished at Oeben's death, allow us to precisely date the production of this model. Several ébénistes including Landrin, Dubois, Macret, Peridiez and Simon Oeben also made tables of this model.
The table, of altar-tripod form with psyche-butterfly drawers, is flowered and fan-shaped in the India (Chinese) manner popularised by the Parisian marchands-merciers. A related table, probably intended for Tsarskoye Selo's Chinese-papered apartments, is illustrated V. Lemus, Pushkin Palaces and Parks,Leningrad,1984 (fig.70), whilst a furthe example attributed to Jean-François Oeben was sold from the Lagerfeld Collection, Christie's Monaco, 28-29 April 2000, lot 29 (FFr.1,907,500).
