The pineapple finial above a canopy hung with swags of drops, the central urn-shaped shaft and later lozenge-banded bowl with two tiers of nitched arms with associated drip-pan with heart-shaped castellations and later nozzles hung with swags, the base with canopy and pineapple boss, the plate and shaft replaced, the upper tier of arms original but converted from 'down' arms
70 in. (178 cm.) high; 48 in. (122 cm.) diameter

Provenance

Dauntsey Park, Wiltshire in the early 20th century and previously thought to be from the London house.

Lot Essay

A very similar example was sold by the late Sir Emmanuel Kaye, C.B.E., Christie's, London, 29 November 2001, lot 70 (£146,750). The latter was thought to have been at Queensbury House, Suffolk and subsequently belonged to Lady Wolverton, Heathlands, Wokingham, Surrey, from where it was sold. It was bought by Delomosne and sold to Sir Emmanuel Kaye in January February 1958 (£1,350). Another similar example was sold from the collection of H. J. Joel, Esq., Childwick Bury, Hertfordshire, Christie's, London, 15 May 1978, lot 88 and subsequently sold at Sotheby's, London, 14 June 1985, lot 33 (£23,100).
