Four Seto and one Takatori Chaire [tea-caddy]
Edo Period (Late 17th-19th Century)
The first of tapered cylindrical form, the pale light brown body covered in a dark brown glaze falling short of the foot, ivory cover, slight chip to rim; the second of tall tapering cylindrical form with circumferential marks, the pale brown body covered with a brown glaze, ivory cover; the third of slightly tapered form, the pale ochre body covered in a dark brown glaze falling short of the base, ivory cover and brocade cloth bag; the fourth, a takatori chaire of ovoid form, the brown body covered in a light brown and dark brown glaze running to the foot, ivory cover (possibly not the original) and brocade cloth bag; the fifth of squat form, the dark brown body covered with a pale and dark brown glaze falling short of the foot, ivory cover and brocade cloth bag
9cm, 9cm, 6.3cm, 19.6cm and 7.3cm. high respectively (5)
