AN EGYPTIAN BASALT BLOCK STATUE FOR IPI
MIDDLE KINGDOM, DYNASTY XII, PERIOD OF AMENEMHET III, 1844-1797 B.C.
The figure seated with his knees drawn up to his chest, his arms crossed over his knees, his body enveloped in a cloak but for his emerging hands, wearing a horizontally-incised chin beard and a centrally-parted striated flaring wig, smooth in the front, with prominent ears, the lidded eyes beneath raised brows, with a single column of hieroglyphs inscribed along the front and back reading, "Inspector of the Hem-netjer priests ("prophets") of the pyramid of Meryre (Pepy I), Established and Beautiful, lord of veneration with Ptah-Sokar, lord of pasturage(?) and the (offering) table, Ipi, justified"
