AN EGYPTIAN QUARTZITE OFFERING TABLE FOR HOREMIYT
MIDDLE KINGDOM, DYNASTY XII, 1991-1783 B.C.
Rectangular in form, the upper surface finely sculpted in shallow relief with two hs vases and loaves of bread on a reed mat, the circular loaves incised with two fingers of a proffering hand, the short square runoff channel in the middle of one long side, the partially retrograde inscription in the frame including versions of the hetep-di-nesu formula, reading, "An offering which the King gives (to) Osiris, Lord of Busiris, the Great God, Lord of Abydos, that he may give invocation offerings of bread and beer, oxen and fowl, incense and oil, and every pure, beautiful thing on which a god lives every day eternally, for the ka of the Nobleman and Governor Horemiyt, made by Sat-Hathor, justified. An offering which the King gives (to) Ptah-Sokar, Lord of the Shetit-sanctuary, that he may give a goodly burial in the western desert in his tomb of the necropolis, for the ka of the Nobleman and Governor, Seal-bearer of the King of Lower Egypt, the Sole Companion Horemiyt, borne by Sat-Hathor, justified"
