AN EGYPTIAN SANDSTONE RELIEF FRAGMENT
MIDDLE KINGDOM, DYNASTY XI-XII, 2040-1783 B.C.
Sculpted in shallow raised relief, preserving the face of a male figure in grand scale in profile to the right, perhaps a god or pharaoh, his large elongated eye with an extended cosmetic line, a straight nose and full lips, with traces of a false beard, extensive pigment preserved throughout including red for the flesh tones, white for the eye, pink for the pupil, black for the rims and cosmetic line, and blue for the beard
