c.1935, probably made by The Wilton Royal Carpet Factory Ltd. hand-knotted wool on a jute warp signed in the weave (repairs, wear) 6m.7cm. x 4m.44cm.

Commissioned by Bryan and Diana Guinness for their dining room.

Lot Essay

Marion Dorn (1896 - 1964) employed a barley motif in the carpet which reflects the Guinness family's connection with brewing. For a similar carpet design see Arts Council of Great Britain, Thirties, British Art and Design Before the War London, Hayward Gallery, exhib. cat. 1979, p. 146, pl. 4.45.
