THE SWEDISH NIGHTINGALE. Jenny Lind made her debut at the age of 17 in Weber's Freischütz; she rose to fame during the 1840s, with performances in Berlin, throughout the German states and in Vienna, but attained legendary status only with her performances in London during the lyric seasons of 1847-49. She married the composer and conductor Otto Goldschmidt in 1852.
