SAINT TRIFONAS
GREECE, 18TH CENTURY
The Saint is depicted frontally, in the pose of orant, with the martyr's cross in his right hand. His dishevelled hair and facial features are rendered in mild tones of brown; his halo is stamped with flowers and his himation is garnished with pearl-imitations and fastened with a flowery brooch.
The background is gold and the capital Greek inscription identifies the Saint. - 7 5/8 x 6in. (19.5 x 15 cm.)
