Saint Nicholas is portrayed in the traditional way as an elder man, holding the Gospel with his left veiled hand and blessing with his right hand. He wears the Episcopal omophorion because he served as Archbishop of Myra in Lycia. His facial features are sensitively rendered with linear brushstrokes. Saint Nicholas is one of the most popular saints in Greece and he is the patron of the seafarers. The inscription in capital Greek letters identifies the Saint. - 8¼ x 6 1/8in. (21 x 15.5cm.)
