A William III ebony and gilt-metal mounted striking table clock
Unsigned. Circa 1695
The case with basket top cast with flowers and cherubs surmounted by a handle cast with eagle and dolphin heads, repoussé frets to the glazed sides, similar mounts to the front and rear doors, the moulded base on claw feet, the 7in. square dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, later blued steel hands, the matted centre with ringed winding holes, decorated calendar aperture and rosette-engraved centre, winged cherub spandrels, the movement with thick brass plates secured by five ring-turned pillars pinned to the front plate, twin fusees with wire lines, later anchor escapement, rack strike on a bell above the plates, pull quarter repeat train and bells now removed, the backplate charmingly engraved with flower heads and foliage within a scored line border
