Tapering square, with rounded corners, the hinged cover with gadrooned border opens to reveal a single glass inkwell, the body engraved with an inscription, the cover engraved with the badge of the British Legion, marked on body and inside cover

The inscription reads 'To H.R.H The Duke of Gloucester, K.G., K.T., K.P., G.C.M.G, G.C.V.O. from Tidworth Branch of the British Legion, on the occasion of his marriage Nov. 6th 1935.'
