MARK OF WILLIAM SUMNER AND RICHARD CROSSLEY, LONDON, 1778
Old English pattern with a feather edge, the bowls with later shell chasing, later engraved with an initial 'S', marked on back, contained in a fitted case, with two cards, each inscribed by Queen Mary, the first 'With Best Birthday Wishes from Grannie Mary 1949'; the second '2 Spoons by W. Sumner + Rich Crossley 1775'

Given to Prince William of Gloucester (1941-1972) by his grandmother Queen Mary (1867-1953), on the occasion of his birthday, 18th December 1949.
