The New Sporting Magazine. London: 1831-1847.
Volumes 1-19 & new series vols 1-11 Baldwin and Cradock in 30 volumes, new series vol.12, parts I-VI & new series, vol.13, part I only, in 7 original parts, 8° (227 x 140mm). 32 steel-engraved titles, 399 steel-engarved plates. (Occasional light browning or spotting.) First 30 volumes: uniform early-20th century red calf gilt by Root & Son, the spines in six compartments with raised bands, red morocco title labels to the second and fourth compartments, the others tooled with sporting motifs in gilt, gilt turn-ins, numerous original wrappers and occasional advertisement leaves bound in; new series vol.12 and vol.13, part I: in original wrappers (various faults, covers to final part lacking), the seven original parts all contained within a single later red calf-backed cloth box, the 'spine' of the box tooled to match the bound volumes (the spine of the box somewhat faded). Provenance: C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (bookplate, in bound volumes; his sale, 11 March 1946, lot 2009).
THE SCHWERDT COPY with an additional selection presented in a box that has been bound to match. The BL catalogue notes that after 1845 the present magazine was essentially the same as 'The Sporstman' and 'The Sporting Review' -- see lots 728 and 729. Cf. Schwerdt II,pp.203 & 209. (31)
