A rare set of Steiff cat skittles
comprising king cat, made of white felt, black shoe button eyes, pink stitched nose and mouth, in red felt tail coat with yellow felt trim and red felt crown with gold braid, seated on turned wooden base --9in. (23cm.) tall; and eight grey felt cats, with black shoe button eyes backed with yellow felt, pink stitched nose and mouth, original ribbon, each seated on turned wooden base --8in. (20.5cm.) tall (very slight moth damage to four cats)

Lot Essay

A similar set of nine skittles first appeared in the Steiff catalogue of 1897.
As there is no indication on any of these skittles of a button in the ear, this set very possibly dates from pre-1904.
