Lot Essay

The chair, with Roman sarcophagus-scrolled back and reed-enriched leg, relates to a hall chair pattern popularised by J. C. Loudon's. Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture and Furniture, 1833, no. 1860.
