Lot Essay

Traditionally attributed to Carpaccio, this picture was attributed more recently to Giovanni Antonio da Lodi (the Pseudo-Boccaccino), to whose style the head of Saint Joseph bears a resemblance. Marco Tanzi (on the basis of photographs) suggests that the artist may have been from the Romagna.
