The bases oval and with alternating plain and fluted lobes, with reeded tapering stems and vase-shaped sockets, each with a detachable nozzle, each engraved with an inscription, two in English and two in Afrikaans, marked on edge of base, underneath and on nozzle, each further stamped 'MADE IN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND' and 'T230'

The inscriptions read 'FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA 6.5.1960' and 'VAN DIE REGERING VAN DIE UNIE VAN SUID AFRIKA 6.5.1960' (4)
Provenance
Given on the occasion of the marriage of H.R.H. The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, to Antony Charles Robert Armstrong-Jones, Earl of Snowdon on 6 May 1960, by the Government of the Union of South Africa.
Regularly used, along with other gold and silver-gilt, on the table in the Dining Room of the Private Apartment of H.R.H. The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon at Kensington Palace.
