A turned and painted English wood doll
with inset dark enamel eyes, 'stitched' brows and lashes, original brown hair wig, roughly carved and jointed white painted wood arms and legs wearing later cotton, muslin and red flannel petticoat, white cotton frock and matching bonnet trimmed with dark red ribbon, in wooden glazed case, early 19th century --15¾in. (40cm.) high

Provenance
This doll was inherited by Sarah Franks as she was the youngest daughter of Robert Franks of Gauber, near Barnsly. Sarah walked to collect the doll three weeks after the birth of her daughter Fanny Taylor on 12th November 1874 . The doll descended the female line thereafter. Robert Frank (sic) was known as a Yorkshire poet.
