A COMPOSITE MILITARY RAPIER; AND A TRANSITIONAL SMALL-SWORD, DUTCH OR GERMAN
The first circa 1620; the second circa 1670-90
The rapier with blade of flattened diamond section, short ricasso, iron hilt of rounded bars including small ring-guard filled with a plate (repairs), and the grip with patterned wire binding; the small-sword with slender blade etched with a bold pattern of scrolls and vine leaves on both sides at the forte (probably 19th Century), iron hilt with large shallow double shell-guard, cut with panels of narrow fluting throughout, and the grip bound with patterned wire (knuckle-guard missing).
