A BRESCIAN WHEEL-LOCK BELT PISTOL
circa 1620-40
With two-stage barrel stamped 'Lazari Cominaz' in the manner of Angelo Cominazo (di Carpegna Com.No. 32 [m2]), plain lock with external wheel retained by a very narrow bracket, sliding pan-cover, carved figured walnut full stock decorated with mouldings below the lock and behind the ramrod aperture, inlaid with a series of flat iron plaques finely pierced and engraved with scrolling designs of flowers, the pommel with domed oval cap decorated en suite within a border of diagonal flutes and rising to a small calyx finial, the trigger-guard, ramrod- pipe and fore-end cap also en suite, and with chiselled belt hook and wooden ramrod with iron baluster tip (the barrel cut back at the breech).
