A BRESCIAN WHEEL-LOCK BELT PISTOL circa 1630-40
With two-stage barrel stamped 'Lazari Cominaz' in the manner of Angelo Cominazo, engraved tang, plain lock struck with maker's mark on the inside, in a shield 'AK', a key between (di Carpegna 1,38.), external wheel retained by a moulded hemispherical ring, sliding pan-cover, walnut full stock decorated with a series of punched incised mouldings about each of the ramrod apertures and below the lock, inlaid with engraved iron rosettes and with a large iron plaque below the lock, the latter pierced and engraved with scrolling foliage, 'fishtail' pommel bound with an engraved moulded iron band enclosing an inlaid flat iron plaque en suite with that below the lock, iron trigger-guard pierced and engraved with scrolls and flowers, baluster trigger, punched engraved belt hook, moulded iron fore-end cap, and original ramrod with chiselled baluster tip (the muzzle possibly cut back, the pommel repaired).
