KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE-CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)

The interior of the dish incised with a single leaping dragon in pursuit of a 'flaming pearl' amidst scrolling clouds and enamelled in brilliant tones of green, turquoise, yellow and aubergine with leafy branches of fruiting peaches and pomegranates, the exterior incised with further dragons under enamelled flowering clusters of rose and camellia

Chao Family Foundation, Hong Kong Museum of Art, 1978, and illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 70; one in the S. C. Ko Tianminlou Collection, illustrated in Chinese Porcelain, Part I, Hong Kong, 1987, no. 80; one included in The Exhibition of Chinese Ceramics of Eight Dynasties, National Museum of History, Taiwan, 1987, illustrated in the Catalogue, p. 86; one exhibited at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, The Wonders of the Potter's Palette, 1984, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 22; one in the Tokyo National Museum, included in Oriental Ceramics, The World's Great Collections, Kodansha Series, Tokyo, 1982, vol. 1, no. 158; and another in the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, illustrated by He Li, Chinese Ceramics, San Francisco, 1996, p. 296, no. 613.

Two examples from the Edward T. Chow Collection were sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, the first on 25 November 1980, lot 156, and the other on 19 May 1981, lot 588. Another dish, previously on loan to the Dallas Museum of Art, was sold in our New York Rooms, 21 March 2002, lot 217.
