Portrait of Miss Sarah Gale, half length, in a landscape

Sarah Gale was the daughter of John Gale (1730-1814) of Highhead Castle, Cumberland, and Sarah, the daughter and heir of Christopher Wilson of Bardsea Hall, Lancashire. In 1784 she married George Bigland (1750-1831) of Bigland Hall, Ulverston, Lancashire.

Several versions of this portrait are known including a work formerly belonging to the Bigland Family, Ulverston, now in the Museo Nacional, Havana, Cuba.
