Lot Essay

Designed by J. Beavor Webb of New York and built by Westacotts at Barnstaple in 1885, the wooden yawl Ventura was registered at 98 tons gross (67½ net) and measured 88 feet in length with a 16 foot beam. Surviving numerous changes of ownership, she was owned by first Major C.E. Little and then Mr. Walter Smith in the decade after 1900.
