Lot Essay

The iron screw steamer Cheops was built by Alexander Stephen & Sons at Dundee in 1870. Ordered for the China trade by Shaw, Maxton & Co. of London, she was registered at 1,505 tons gross and measured 255 feet in length with a 33 foot beam.
