TROUBLED RELATIONS WITH HIS GROWING CHILDREN. After a confirmation that for a year at least he will be able to send money regularly, Einstein irritably concedes that he will meet the children in a neutral location in October: 'But for the future you should at the very least give up on forbidding Albert to travel to Berlin. It is absolutely ridiculous to wish to shelter a nearly grown man in this way. My wife will keep in the background with relation to Albert; I could even take my meals alone with him if you really wish it. But these are absurdities. One shouldn't have to make such a business against you old women'. He is sorry to hear that Tetel [Eduard] is ill again: 'If he can't be put right before he reaches puberty, all is lost'. The letter concludes with practical arrangements for the holiday with the children.
