[SILVER BINDING.] A small notebook bound in finely worked silver filigree. English, late 17th century.

24o (98 x 61 mm). Alternating text leaves coated to permit writing from silver stylus which holds the volume closed, gathered leaves held together with green ribbon tied through three holes on spine. Sides with intricate silver scroll pattern, rope style edges. Provenance: Brocas Gardiner family (numerous family notes from 1669-1740, recording births, deaths, etc.); purchased from Chiswick Bookshop, 16 July 1959.
