[STENCILLED MANUSCRIPT.] ANTIPHONAL. Italian?, dated 1677 on penultimate leaf.
500 x 445 mm. STENCILLED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. 101 leaves. 4-line red staves, first leaf with large initial K in green and blue on a gold ground and with elaborate floral border, other initials throughout the manuscript in colors. 17th-century diced leather over wooden boards, metal bosses and cornerpieces. Provenance: purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 14 April 1961.
Though it appears to be a manuscript, this reveals itself to be stencilled. A few letters overlap slightly, indicating that each letter was done separately. The four-line staves also appear to be stencilled, as do the decorative borders around some of the initials. It bears the inscription on the penultimate page: "Vident in penultima pagina ano 1677. Fr. Gregorius Rom. Scriptsithie." The opening initial and several other initials places around the stencils were added later, as described in a note in Italian on p.159: "P. Mose Puccini scrisso questo libro l'anno 1854."
