A French giant mahogany and brass-mounted portico timepiece with calendar and sweep seconds
Leroy, Paris. Circa 1830
The massive case with brass-bound stepped pediment supported by four turned columns with gilt-brass Corinthian capitals, the frieze applied with a brass plaque engraved Leroy a Paris, on brass-bound stepped base, the dial with beaded gallery to brass bezel, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with inner concentric calendar ring, hatch engraved centre, signed on two reserves LE ROY/A PARIS, with gilt-brass arrow hour and minute hands and blued steel arrow sweep seconds and calendar hands, the single barrel movement housed within a brass casing and with indirect wind through the bezel below 30, pin wheel escapement, the date work also with trip cord for adjustment; the massive pendulum with brass rod and bob suspended from the top of the case
