Lot Essay

Benjamin Brock worked in Bristol from 1775-1794.
The present tavern clock is particularly rare for having a glazed bezel over the dial.
Tavern clock movements hardly changed at all in the 100 years or so that they were fashionable. They were virtually all made with single train timepiece movements, occasionally they had passing strike, but two train rack striking tavern clocks like the present lot are extremely rare.
