A French 19th-Century desk-top thermometer and compass sundial,
the oxidised-brass capital decorated with angels and animal masks and balcony surmounted by a glazed compass sundial with bird gnomon, hours 4-12, 1-8 for latitudes 49° and 46°, the compass with 1-360° circumference scale, four Cardinal points and needle, the electroplated fluted column with alcohol thermometer graduated for RÉAUMUS and CELSIUS, the oxidised-brass footed base atop a marble plinth -- 26cm. (10¼in.) high
