Lot Essay

The German Fürstenberg Porcelain Factory was founded by Charles I, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel in 1747. The original eighteenth century moulds were re-used by the factory in 1947 to commemorated its bi-centenary. For another example see The Ernst Boehlen Chess Collection, Phillips, London, November 1998, lot 59.
