Heian period (12th century)
Carved in single-block technique (ichiboku-zukuri) as Tamonten, one of the Guardians of the Four Directions, dressed in Chinese-style armor and holding a pagoda and trident spear, the face in a fierce expression, standing on a subdued demon; wood rock base and trident of later date
