Meiji period (late 19th century), signed Heisensai Sadashige and red-lacquer seal
Designed in gold takamaki-e, hiramaki-e and togidashi with two rectangular sunken panels of Chinese lions and butterflies with highlights of inlaid mother-of-pearl and gold foil, the backgrounds with chevron-shaped clouds in kinpun embellished with hirame and kirigane, the area around the panels decorated with gold hiramaki-e and yamimaki-e peonies with hirame embellishments, interior cases nashiji; fitted with a stag antler ojime of a Chinese lion on a brocade ball and a wood netsuke of a Chinese lion with his foot resting on a ball, signed Toshinaga
