Lot Essay

Chakotay took great pride in his Native American heritage. These artifacts reflect this pride. Of particular interest in a modernistic circular wall hanging with a spiral design, suggesting the Milky Way galaxy. Wooden rods affixed to the spiral may - or may not - suggest the path of wormholes across the galaxy. One rod appears to correspond to the Caretaker's wormhole, which stranded Voyager in the Delta Quadrant, while another might represent the Bajoran wormhole, as seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Chakotay's distant ancestors once traversed the stars, so it could be possible that his traditional folk art might contain a hint of those ancient voyages.
