Lot Essay

RARE. THE BOIES PENROSE COPY. This is the first and only edition of this panorama, which was issued both coloured and uncoloured. A Companion to the Panorama of Constantinople was published by Leigh in 1831 to accompany the present work, which was presumably issued either shortly before or at the same time. Only the Atabey and Blackmer copies can be traced at auction since 1975 and Blackmer states that only two copies are located in NUC, and that it is not present in the Gennadius Library, the British Library, nor the Victoria and Albert Museum.
