Circular in form, an inscription in Greek around the edge reading "EUKARPIAS" ("good fruits"), a raised circular ball joint on underside
6½ in. (16.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

This altar was probably intended for the ritual offerings of a private household. Besides animal sacrifice, gifts of cake in specific forms according to the different characters of each divinity may have been offered, and fruit and grains often mixed or even cooked as specific ritual dishes offered to honour particular gods.
