Lot Essay

Born in London, Robin Rae studied at the Royal College of Art under John Nash, Francis Bacon, Rodrigo Moynihan and Edward Bawden. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1946 and by the age of twenty-one had already held two solo exhibitions in London. Unfortunately much of this early work was destroyed.
Having taught in Edinburgh and Liverpool, Rae retired to Bradpole, Bridport in Dorset, continuing to paint but avoiding any strong contact with the art world.
