The present drawing dates from early in Müller's career and can be compared to the View of the Lagoon, Venice, The Bill Thompson Collection of Paintings, Watercolours and Drawings by William James Müller 1812-1845; Sotheby's, London, 25 November 1999, lot 46, which dates from 1834.
