Lot Essay

Another version of this composition (5½ x 7½ in.) was included in the Barbican Art Gallery exhibition David Roberts, 1986, no. 38 as Fleet Street Looking towards Temple Bar, 1832, which was engraved for George Cooke, Views of London and its Vicinity, 1826-32, pl. 22 as after a sketch by E.W. Cooke.

Roberts finished the present drawing three days before leaving for his trip to Spain on the 18th October.
