THE SMIRDIN COPY. F. Prokopovich was a poet, leading churchman, and official during the reign of Peter the Great, whom he supported on the foundation of the Holy Synod, and his policies on the secularization of the state. A professor at Kiev Academy, and archbishop of Novgorod in 1725, his influence lasted until 1836.
